Downtown LA and Hollywood

In LA this weekend and found some cool paste-ups and stencils. I have been following a few street art artist and blogs for a while. Shepard Fairey and Banksy are two of the most popular ones. Check out Exit Through the Gift Shop it is a great documentary about street art that will make you want to create your own art, or hate art and never want to do any type of art ever again.
This one was done by Shepard Fairey - obeygiant.com

Beach Mural

This is a mural I started painting two weekends ago. Last weekend I got pretty sick so I wasn't able to work on it. So finally last night I could go work on it. I drew everything free hand with a white sharpie paint pen to get the ruff layout starting with the main background pieces. Then I will add in the cartoon characters after all the back ground is colored. I plan on adding a starfish, crab, and a shark or a turtle.

This is how far I got two weeks ago.
I finished up the leafs on the tree last night.
It is starting to look like a beach scene. The wave is going to be the next thing I paint and it should turn out really cool.

It was hard to take these pictures cause the light for the room was right in the middle. That is what caused the weird glow. I will try to take some more pictures during the day.

Moleskine sketch book

Here is a few sketches I have been working on. Since I am painting a mural I have been trying to come up with some sea life to put in the painting. Since everything is so cartoony it all looks like it is from Finding Nemo. I didn't eve reference it when I was sketching these guys. I really like that movie, so maybe the character shapes are stuck in my head.
This is my least favorite one. The scan didn't come over to well but the sea turtle looks horrible to me.

Outline

Took one of the characters from my sketch book and outlined him in Illustrator. Then created a new brush and added some weight to the line.
Now I just need to give him feet.

Beach Mural

A couple of rough sketches for a mural.

Moleskine sketch book

Another sketch from this past weekend. I have been playing around with my pentel brush pen. This pen is really cool and it writes great. I just wish the ink came out a little darker. Other than that it is an awesome pen.
